Rick Reeves Irish Castle Wheel $3000 -- pick up in Cleveland Area.
Only 8 of these wheels were made.
Condition
The wheel is in excellent condition. Spins easily and is set up for Double drive. At some point a scotch tension had been added; which was inappropriate to this wheel and was not original! A professional spinning wheel repair shop removed the peg and the hole that held the tension peg has been filled with a peg. The hole for the screw was left alone (it was too small to peg).
Spinability
- Like most double drive wheels take up is light and this wheel spins thin singles VERY well.
- Treadling is light and easy -- it is true toe-heel.
- The wheel is quiet on all bobbins.
- The wheel is adjustable -- you an angle the drive wheel, adjust tension easily, and control the amount of pressure on the flyer with the maiden adjustment.
REPAIRS
- A professional Wheel repair shop reset the Mother Of All, after consulting with Rick Reeves. It has been re-glued and re-pegged.
- They also re-soldered the brass crank shaft to return it to original condition.
Features
- Made of beautiful Red Oak that has reached a mellow patina.
- The wheel can be angled to match the position of the whorl. See the small screw at the base of the upright holding the drive wheel in place.
- The tension for the drive band is a wood disk which turns, thereby causing the Tensioning device to move vertically up and down.
- The Flyer is removed by turning a disk which makes the front maiden move outwards.
- There is a built in orifice hook.
- The Wheel comes with 5 bobbins, 4 of which are stored on brass rods between the legs.
- The Wheel comes with 3 whorls, Extra Fast, Standard, and Slow.
- The wheel comes with a distaff (in 3 interlocking pieces)
